We are currently seeing dynamic Support Workers to assist with our current educational support services.
The role will involve working with children and young adults that have special educational needs and will be based at our main locations at the Higher Farm Site and our residential site in West Cheshire.
Our services are based in a rural setting on a working Equestrian Centre. Being able to work with horses or having an interest in doing so is essential.
Candidates will receive full training to equip them for this role, and will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
Whilst we are mainly looking for full time staff, there are opportunities for part time positions also. Due to in house training requirements, part time positions are likely to be allocated based on experience of the staff member.
Normal working days will be between the hours of 9am and 5pm and based on a Monday to Friday pattern (excluding bank holidays).
Standard rates of pay start at £11.50 an hour and rising.
Individual pay rates are based on experience and suitability for the role.
All salaries are paid on a monthly basis
All staff must pass an enhanced DBS check and references prior to any offer being confirmed.
1. Identifying any learning difficulties a child may have so they receive the right support in class
2. Helping children cope with everyday tasks, such as dressing themselves or eating independently
3. Observing students' strengths and weaknesses
4. Providing strategies to help and support each child
5. Developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), star charts and ensuring the child is reaching their EHCP objectives.
6. Tracking progress and achievements
7. Reporting to teachers and parents on their child's progress
8. Helping to plan lessons and follow HFH lesson timetable
9. Ensuring every child's needs are being met
10. Identify and support appropriately service users with capacity and those who lack capacity.
11. Record appropriately all decisions which relate to service users who lack capacity.
12. Involve and consult with service users, their families, representatives or advocates to ensure that the service user’s views are expressed and acted upon.
13. Attend reviews as appropriate.
14. Update and continually improve practice by a mutually agreed method which may include attendance at staff meetings, learning support briefings and one-to-one supervision.
15. Take responsibility in conjunction with line manager for identifying further learning.
16. Be aware of requirements regarding codes of practice and relevant codes of conduct where appropriate issued by professional bodies.
17. Promote good practice and be vigilant in recognising and reporting practice which does not meet the defined standard.
18. To assist and contribute to any regulatory body inspection or monitoring visit.
19. To act always, to safeguard service users from any form of abuse and to report such concerns immediately.
20. To create in conjunction with other members of staff a caring, safe and acceptable atmosphere in which growth and independence are fostered by the maintenance of a supportive and positive role.
21. Providing a continuity and consistency of support to the relevant line manager thereby facilitating the student’s access to and progress in any educational, social, therapy or developmental programmes that are being applied.
22. To undertake specific tasks with individuals or groups as directed by the line manager or other senior staff members.
23. Ensuring all relevant information relating to the students (e.g. concerning behaviour, personal development, medical incidents etc.) is relayed to appropriate staff members and recorded in accordance with Higher Farm Education policy and procedures.
24. To follow and act upon Behaviour Management guidelines, advice and programmes in line with the philosophy of positive reinforcement and the Behaviour Management policy at Higher Farm Education.
25. To provide the students with encouragement, reassurance and comfort, and when necessary to help in the management of those students who may be aggressive, distressed or disruptive, in accordance with skills and training.
26. Supporting at all times the long term aim for student independence by encouraging the growth of these skills, but to nonetheless assist, when appropriate, with the physical and personal care of the students.
27. To lead and participate in various recreational, educational and social activities and to accompany students either to other areas of the site or off site for scheduled meetings or activities.
28. To supervise students during breaktimes.
29. Liaising with other staff (Line Managers, Student Support Workers, and Teachers etc.) during the allocated ‘handover’ periods regarding the students` behaviour and development.
30. To attend meetings, in conjunction with the line manager, with both educational, care, therapy and medical staff concerning students and to complete any relevant paperwork for these meetings.
31. Assisting with assessing, planning and reviewing student progress.
32. To undertake the role of Keyworker for a specified number of students, with special responsibility to ensure a consistency of the support provided and to identify any issues concerning development.
33. Attending appropriate in-service training as required by the job role.
34. To ensure that educational and recreational equipment and aids are both prepared and cleared away following direction from the Line Manager.
35. To ensure any necessary administration (photocopying etc.) is completed and that supplies of consumable items are maintained at an appropriate level as advised by the Line Manager.
36. To undertake any activities as may be required to ensure the safe and effective running of any assigned working area in compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
37. To receive parents and visitors and participate in open days and conferences as required.
38. To liaise with parents and carers in an informal manner, but nonetheless in accordance with Higher Farm Education policy, as required.
39. To work in any area of the education or support department or to transfer between areas as requested by the Line Manager
